چکیده

Optical pulsing of a laser beam provides a convenient manner for transmitting digital information, and such procedures have led to well-accepted classes of pulse amplitude and pulse position modulation formats. However the excessive pulse dispersion and background light bursts that characterize several optical channels severly limit performance and achievable data rates. One procedure for combating these effects is to encode data over a multiple of pulse frames, and decode sequences of pulses rather than each pulse individually. In the paper pulse to pulse encoding and decoding of an optical beam is examined, considering both photodector gain effects and receiver thermal noise. Theoretical performance results are presented, and the relation between this type of decoding and “tree searching” is developed.

Designing and Constructing an Optical System to measure Continuous and Cuffless Blood Pressure Using Two Pulse Signals

Introduction Blood pressure (BP) is one of the important vital signs that need to be monitored for personal healthcare. Arterial blood pressure is estimated from pulse transit time (PTT). This study uses two pulse sensors to get PTT. The aim of this study was to construct an optical system and to monitor blood pressure continuously and without cuff in people with different ages. Materials and M...

Influence of Interface Thermal Resistance on Relaxation Dynamics of Metal-Dielectric Nanocomposite Materials under Ultrafast Pulse Laser Excitation

Nanocomposite materials, including noble metal nanoparticles embedded in a dielectric host medium, are interesting because of their optical properties linked to surface plasmon resonance phenomena. For studding of nonlinear optical properties and/or energy transfer process, these materials may be excited by ultrashort pulse laser with a temporal width varying from some femtoseconds to some hund...

Light Pulses Could Improve

P urdue University researchers have developed a way to finely control ultrafast laser pulses’ spectral properties to create more powerful optical-communications technologies. The laser pulses last a trillionth to a quadrillionth of a second—a picosecond to a femtosecond. In essence, each pulse could serve as a data bit in future high-speed optical-communications systems, explained Purdue profes...

Hybrid pulse position modulation/ultrashort light pulse code-division multiple-access systems .I. Fundamental analysis

In this paper, we propose a hybrid pulse position modulation/ultrashort light pulse code-division multiple-access (PPM/ULP-CDMA) system for ultrafast optical communications. The proposed system employs spectral CDMA encoding/decoding and PPM with very short pulse separation. The statistical properties of the encoded ULP are investigated with a general pulse model, and the performance of the pro...
